The CO.motion Dancers & Jr. CO.motion
The CO.motion Dancers Performance Company was established in 1990 by the Summit School of Dance. It is the intention of this group to train dancers in the art of performance while allowing them to further develop their own skills in choreography and style. The CO.motion Dancers are experienced in several styles of dance. They include ballet, jazz, modern, tap, hip-hop, and musical theatre in their repertoire .The group is comprised of students who have a strong desire to perform. Dancers must be 11 years and up and are required to to take a minimum of three styles of dance, (Ballet, Jazz, and Leaps & Turns).
The CO.motion Dancers have received top honors at both regional and national competitions. They are also regular performers at all Summit County elementary, middle school, and high schools. Annually, they perform the NUTCRACKER at Keystone’s Warren Station. They’ve also been featured at Summit County’s Fall for the Arts Event, at Copper Mountain’s West Fest, and International Festivals, Keystone’s Wine, Art and Jazz Festival, Breckenridge’s Meet the Artist Event, Fiesta Frisco, The BBQ Challenge and several other summer street fairs.
After starting the Jr. CO.motion group in 2000, Mandy Sherar, took over as the
Director of CO.motion in 2001. Mandy was once a student of SSD and has been
teaching since 1995. Mandy has award winning choreography and continues
to create amazing works in jazz, tap, contemporary, lyrical, and many other styles.
Summit School of Dance alumni can be found all over the dance world. Former CO.motion alumnus Mandy Moore, can be seen on TV as a choreographer on SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE. Past CO.motion dancer Rosie Fiedelman performs with the Jennifer Muller Company and was an original cast member of the Broadway Musical IN THE HEIGHTS. Austin Johns is currently touring with Disney playing Ken, in the Barbie & Ken Show. Others have danced with major U.S. ballet companies, several small modern companies, on professional sport dance squads, on cruises, and in recent years SSD has had as many as 4 dancers on the CU Dance Team. Many others have gone on to teach, as well as open their own studios.
