Policies



Registration


Each child must file a registration contract for each term he/she attends. In the event a child should wish to change or stop classes an Add/Drop Form must be filled out and filed with the office. This can be done in person, or by email. One month notice is required to discontinue any classes. Withdrawal must be done in writing, and will not be accepted over the phone. Last Day to drop a class is March 15.


Attendance


Dance training must be consistent if it is to be effective. In our school, curriculum is designed to carry each student forward each class. Students are encouraged to make up missed classes due to illness or injury. They can use this opportunity to try a different style. We ask that makeup classes try to be taken during the month which they are missed.

Tuition is based on a full term. There is no additional charge for extra classes, due to longer months, and there is no refund for classes canceled, due to holidays. The SSD will make every effort to find substitute teachers in the event of illness, but occasionally classes may be cancelled due to illness or weather conditions. If this occurs, you may then take advantage of the make-up policy.


Classroom Observation


We invite you to come and watch your child’s progress, but ask you to do so using our video system. You can enjoy watching your child over closed circuit TV from the comfort of our waiting area. This will help you to see the advances they’ve made as well as offer the instructor quality time with your child, since they can be so easily distracted. Eagle County families are invited to watch in the classroom on the first class of each month.


Tuition


Tuition will be charged to your credit card or bank account on the 5th of each month of the school session from Aug. through May. Tuition is based on the total amount of time of classes for which a family is enrolled. Each family’s tuition account will be set up on an automated system at the time of registration. April and May tuition will be charged at the beginning of April, so that recital costumes can be distributed as they arrive.


Studio Closures


The first day of class in Summit County will be August 8, with no class on Sept 5. Eagle classes begin on Sept 1. ALL studios will be closed on the following dates… Nov 23-27, Dec 22-Jan 4, Feb 12-19, and April 16-23.
The last day of classes for Summit County is Saturday May 27. For Eagle County the last day of class is May 18.


Classroom Attire


We will strictly enforce leotard and pink tights for ALL ballet classes. Girls in level III and up will be expected to also wear a bun, younger students a ponytail. Skirts are optional. For all other styles students are still expected to wear leotards. They can be any style, but solid colors are encouraged. Dance pants and shorts are also acceptable. No baggy T-shirts or jeans will be tolerated. Preschoolers can wear anything they can comfortably move in, and boys should wear sweat pants a plain T-shirt, and socks.


Performance Opportunities


The Summit School of Dance holds its annual recital in May. All enrolled students will have the opportunity to perform in the recital, which usually turns out to be the highlight of the dancer’s year. Most instructors will order costumes for their classes. A non refundable deposit will be collected in January for each class in which your child is enrolled; remaining balances will be billed in March. If a class does not order a costume the deposit is applied to the total costume bill.


The CO.motion Dancers & Jr. CO.motion Performance Groups


Summit School of Dance has 2 award winning performance groups for those who would enjoy more opportunities to perform.
Jr CO.motion is for dancers age 7-12, who are currently enrolled in Ballet and Jazz.
The CO.motion Dancers are ages 11 and up and are required to take Ballet, Jazz, Leaps & Turns, as well as the rehearsal class.
Younger dancers may also be accepted into either group upon instructor recommendation.
